Produced as part of a three month research project for the RDP (Research, Design, Publish) elective at the Royal College of Art in 2016. For the duration of the three months I worked alongside housing campaigns such as Save Cressingham Gardens and Focus E15 on campaign materials. The research I gathered during this three month period culminated in a publication and live performance as part of the RDP 2016 Exhibition.
Take Back The City is a creative deconstruction of the neoliberal city, presenting an alternative, empowering narrative on what housing should and could be in London. The publication contains contributions from London’s housing campaigns, an interview with Yasar Adanali (Founder of Reclaim Istanbul) and a script from the projects live performance which speculates on the future of housing, as told from the perspective of a housing campaigner in 2031.
In short, the project attempts to bring the positive and empowering narratives which are conceived in housing campaign meetings to a wider audience.
